Things That Just Feel Like Fall in Richmond
It may still be warm out, but with NFL football kicking off, we’re already thinking about fall in Richmond. There’s just something about this time of year that gets us ready for cooler days, changing leaves, football Sundays, and all the seasonal things we look forward to every year.
Here are a few of our favorite things that just feel like fall around Richmond.
Apple Cider Donuts from the Sunday Farmer's Market
If you’ve been to a local farmers market, chances are you’ve seen the First Stop Donuts food truck. They’re a regular at markets around Richmond, serving up fresh, warm donuts that are pretty hard to pass up.
And when the apple cider donuts make their appearance, you know fall is getting close. Grab a bag, get yourself a coffee, and enjoy a Saturday morning at the market. It’s a pretty great way to start the weekend.
Hay Rides at Chesterfield Berry Farm
A hay ride at Chesterfield Berry Farm is a Richmond-area fall tradition for a reason.
Head out to the farm for an afternoon of hay rides, pumpkins, and all the seasonal activities that make this time of year so much fun. It’s a great one for families, but honestly, you don’t need kids to enjoy a trip to the farm.
Just go for the fall atmosphere.
Football Sundays at The Grill
Football is back, which means it’s time to settle in for some Sunday games.
The Grill is a go-to spot for watching football with friends, grabbing some food, and making a whole afternoon out of it. Whether you’re following your team closely or mostly there for the food and company, football Sundays are a big part of the season.
And yes, we’re already looking forward to them.
St. Benedict Oktoberfest
Nothing gets you in the fall spirit quite like an Oktoberfest.
St. Benedict Oktoberfest is happening September 18, bringing beer, German food, music, and plenty of Richmond-area fall fun to the city. It’s one of those events that makes it feel like the season is officially getting started.
Grab your friends, enjoy a stein or two, and make an afternoon of it.
Fall Foliage in The Fan
There’s nothing quite like walking through The Fan once the leaves start changing.
The neighborhood’s tree-lined streets make for one of the best places in Richmond to take in the fall colors. Grab a coffee, meet up with a friend, and wander around for a while. You really don’t need much of a plan.
Just enjoy the leaves while they last.
Richmond Folk Festival
The Richmond Folk Festival is one of the biggest signs that fall has arrived in the city.
This year, the festival takes place October 9 through 11, 2026, along Richmond’s riverfront. Three days of live music, food, art, and plenty of people out enjoying the city make this one of the best fall weekends in Richmond.
It’s a weekend worth putting on the calendar now.
Bring on Fall
Football is back, First Stop Donuts is serving up apple cider donuts, Oktoberfest is on the calendar, and the leaves will be changing before we know it.
